Click Tags

Inspired by the old ‘Clicktags’ plugin, which was written by Andy Staines, the clickable tag interface has now been recreated for WordPress 3.0 and above.

What this Plugin Makes Possible

Using lightweight CSS and JavaScript, this plugin provides clickable buttons on the post editing screen for adding tags. Rather than trying to remember which tags are available, or relying on relatively slow autocomplete in the standard tag input field, clickable tags are quick and easy to hit and add each tag to the post with a single click.

Having been using this plugin for so many years, a post editing window which doesn’t have quickly clickable tags now just seems alien to me.

For my own usage contexts, the plugin currently limits the display of clickable tags to users who are editors (who can edit_others_posts, technically speaking), but this restriction can be altered or eliminated by changing a single line of code.

How it Works

This plugin communicates with WordPress primarily by tapping into the following:

  • simple_edit_form
  • edit_form_advanced
  • edit_page_form
  • admin_head

Configuration: None

No administrator time is required — just plug and play!
